Congratulations to Senior, Tori Nelson for being named Henry Sibley High School's Athena Award Winner.  Tori will be recognized at the St. Paul Area Athena Banquet in April.

Congratulations to Senior, Allie Prokosch for being named the Region 3AA, AAA Award Winner.  Allie represents the 16 member schools that make up the region and will be recognized at the boys state basketball tournament in March.  

This Saturday are the GOFA Games! Find sign up forms in the activities office or in your email! Teams of 4 will compete in different events, such as the Bat Mobile Race and the infinity stone collection. The GOFA Games is this Saturday starting at 2:30. Turn in forms online or in the activities office by Friday afternoon! See you there! 

 Come out tonight to Chipotle on Robert Street between 4-8 tonight! When you tell them you are there to support GOFA, part of your bill is donated back to us! Tell your family and friends too! All are welcomed and encouraged!  

Stop by the table in the lunch room this week to buy your GOFA Flash T-shirt for $10, Data matches for $1 each and Talent Show pre-sale tickets for $8. Tickets are $10 at the door if you wait until Wednesday night! 

Congrats to the girls JV and Varsity basketball teams as they both picked up wins over Tartan last Friday. Varsity won 84-62 behind Tori Nelson’s 42 points, 17 rebounds, and 3 ankle breaks. Tori’s 42 points sets the single-game scoring record for girls basketball. Come support the girls tonight as they take on Mahtomedi at home!

What’s happening this week aside from GOFA and another snowstorm. If you guessed baseball you are correct. Baseball  sign ups for all 9th and 10th grade boys will be held this Thursday in Room A211 right after school. Bring a friend and check us out. Any questions see Mr Retka or Mr McCarthy.

The 28th Annual Henry Sibley Father Daughter Dance is coming!  Mark your calendars for Friday, March 15, 2019, from 6:30-10:00 pm. Invitations will be mailed out soon.  The theme is Western (Sparkles and Spurs).  Save the date for this wonderful evening for all Sibley ladies and that special adult male in your life (Father/Step-Father/Grandfather/Uncle!)

Hey Sibley fans!!! If you love Sibley like we do, come support the girls basketball teams tonight as they take on Tartan at home. JV is at 5:30 and Varsity is at 7. Come show love and support for the balling girls.

If you are ready to throw some dodgeballs, you better sign up by the end of school today!!!! Get 5 of your best dodgers, duckers, and dippers, divers, and dodgers and come compete on Monday night. Or if you aren’t a dodger, come watch your peers try not to get hit!

Attention all boys interested in playing volleyball this spring.  We will be offering a intramural volleyball league one night a week!  Please attend the meeting TODAY after school in the library.  Can't make the meeting, stop by the library and talk to Mrs. Naughton!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH NELSON MANDELA - Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election

Varsity baseball sign ups for all 11th and 12th grade boys will be held Friday Feb 15 in Room A 211 beginning at 8:00 baseball time. 

For all 9th and 10th Grade boys interested in playing baseball we will have a sign up meeting on Thursday Feb 21 right after school in Room A211. Please pas the word.

Juniors! Are you interested in having your student voice heard at the School Board level? Are you interested in an opportunity to experience actual, legal policy making first hand? Are you interested in qualifying for a scholarship by creating direct dialogue between the student body of District 197 and the School Board? If so, you need to come to the main office and pick up an application to serve as the Student Representative to the School Board for the 2019-2020 school year. The application process opens March 4 and will close March 21.

Today is the last day during lunches that SADD will be selling CANDY Grams for Valentine’s day- Don’t forget your friends, favorite staff member or yourself to send a happy note to. 

The NHS Spring Blood Drive is March 1st! Sign up during lunch or in the guidance office. If you are 16, you will need to get your parents’ permission. If you are planning to donate, make sure to eat a good breakfast, drink lots of water, and bring a photo ID. We hope to see you there! 

Max Frisch and Sam Gore competed for the Henry Sibley Swim and Dive team last night at the JV Conference championships.  Max helped two relays finish 3rd in the meet and turned in personal best times in two events. Sam crushed his season best times and had a fantastic meet. Martin Demezaga finished third in diving. Congratulations Max, Sam and Martin.

The Warrior boys basketball teams had a great night against Hill Murray last night with wins for the B-squad, JV, and Varsity. The 9B team also picked up another solid win in their non-conference game. The Varsity won 73-48 in a great team effort with key contributions from seniors A.J. Stringer and Ben Munkelwitz.

Hello Students!! Next week is GOFA! Monday we don’t have school, but come to school Tuesday dressed up as your favorite superhero or villain. Wednesday come showing your captain America, or USA pride! Thursday each grade has a different superhero to dress up as, freshman are wonderwoman and superman are blue! Sophomores you are red for spiderman! Juniors are thanos so dress in purple! Seniors show off your batman clothes wearing black!!!!! Friday dress up in flash showing sibley pride in gold and red! Get ready for an awesome week.

Henry Sibley Dollars for Scholars - Donate, apply and more!

The Henry Sibley Dollars for Scholars program provides scholarships to Sibley students pursuing post-secondary education. Last year 115 scholarships for post-secondary education were awarded to Henry Sibley graduates totaling over $100,000. Applications for Henry Sibley Dollars for Scholars scholarships for the class of 2019 will be accepted through Feb 25. All Henry Sibley graduating seniors are eligible to apply.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH - Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some thirteen missions to rescue approximately seventy enslaved people, family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad.

it is Senior Night for the boys hockey team tonight.   If the other team is not able to make it tonight, due to the snow, Senior Night will still go on! Show the seniors your support tonight at the WSP Arena at 5:30.

Model UN Country assignments have been sent again to your ISD 197 email. Please read all information and email Mrs. Fox if you have not received it.

The GOFA Dodgeball tournament is less than a week away! Do you have what it takes to be the champions!? Find sign up forms in the activities office or in your email! We need all forms to be turned into the activities office or submitted online by FRIDAY in order to be in the tournament on MONDAY. This is especially important because there is no school next Monday! Cost is $25 per team of 5! Come support GOFA! 

GOFA starts next week and you can help support us raise money by eating delicious Chipotle on Tuesday, February 19th from 4-8 pm. Check your email for the flyer, pick one up in the office, or tell them you want to support GOFA while your there and Chipotle will make a donation to us! It's so easy! Spread the word and tell your family and friends too!

Come out and support your boy's basketball team tonight as they try to sweep the season series with Hill Murray. The game starts at 7, but come a few minutes early to hear the Henry Sibley choir sing the national anthem.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH - Ruby Nell Bridges Hall is an American civil rights activist. She was the first African-American child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960.

Remember to stop by the tables at lunch to purchase your candygram for VALENTINES day - $1 and you choose the valentine to be delivered to that teacher, friend or special person. Sales will go until Tuesday   VALENTINES day is this Thursday

Congrats to the girls basketball team on their JV and Varsity wins over South St. Paul. Special shoutout to all the students who came and helped cheer the girls on to their 8th win in a row! Next home game is on Friday vs. Tartan.

Thursday morning before school we will have a recognition send off our Warrior Dance Team as they are headed to STATE.  Stay tuned for more specifics.

In honor of Black History Month we recognize Hall of Fame baseball player Frank Robinson who passed away yesterday.  Robinson was the first African-American to serve as head coach in any major professional sport becoming the first and second black manager in major league baseball.  Frank Robinson played twenty years in the major leagues and became the first player to be named MVP in both the American and National Leagues. He was elected to the hall of fame in 1982, his first year on the ballot.   He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005.

Reminder to Seniors...check your email!!!!!!! Fill out the Google Survey that was emailed to you on Wednesday regarding cap and gown sizing for graduation. 

Your Warrior Dance Team is competing at their Section Tournament tomorrow and could your Warrior Spirit in the stands!  The competition is at Bloomington Kennedy High School and begins at 10:00am.  Tickets are $6 for students, $8 for adults.  The Kick Team will be competing at approximately 11:20 and the Jazz Team at approximately 12:20; awards are at 2:30.  Come out and support this team as they go after punching their ticket to the State Tournament!

Who doesn’t like Free?  And Fun?  Come cheer on the girls basketball team on Friday night at home as they take on local rival South St. Paul at 7PM.  It is Student Appreciation Night and all students that show a valid school ID will get in to the game free.  We will have fun give-aways at the start of the game and at half-time.  Come fill the stands!

Dance call backs for the spring musical will be today after school in Warrior Hall.

DAY 7 OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH TODAY WE LEARN ABOUT ROSA LOUISE MCCAULEY PARKS KNOWN AS (ROSA PARKS)  Rosa Louise McCauley Parks was an American activist in the civil rights movement best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The United States Congress has called her "the first lady of civil rights" and "the mother of the freedom movement"

The warrior girls JV and Varsity basketball teams picked up big wins over North St. Paul last night. The girls have extended their win streak to 7-GAMES! Come see the team take on South St. Paul on Friday for Student Appreciation Night. All students with their ID card get in FREE!

Dodge, dip, duck, dive and dodge are the 5 D’s of dodgeball. Come show off your dodgeball skills at the GOFA dodgeball tournament February 18th! Get a team of 5 and sign up in the activities office! If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge a ball!

Congratulations to Jessica McAllister, 11th grade clarinetist  who was named to the very prestigious University of Minnesota High School Honor Band. Hundreds of accomplished band students from the Upper Mid-West auditioned for the fine ensemble. Jessica is one of 18 clarinet players selected for the Honor Band. Over the last 25 years, Jessica is the sixth Henry Sibley student name to the University of MN Honor Band. Jessica McAllister and Noah Russell are the only juniors from Henry Sibley to ever achieve this accomplishment!

To celebrate Black History Month, we will identify prominent individuals in American History.  Carter G. Woodson - American historian and journalist who in 1926, originated "Negro History Week," which was observed each year during the second week in February because this week included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Fredrick Douglas. "Negro History Week" became "Black History Month."

Attention all students and staff.  It’s Livegreen Week.  Come see the Livegreen Club at all lunches for some fun activities and giveaways.  Plus you can purchase repurposed plants and Livegreen T-Shirts or water bottles.  If you haven’t yet, please take a few moments to complete the Livegreen survey sent to your email last week and we’ll share the results later this week during all lunches.­­

We have valentine cards and GOFA buttons for sale! WATWP will be selling GOFA buttons and valentine cards on Tuesdays and Thursdays before school and during first hour. GOFA buttons are $1.00 and all profits support GOFA. Valentine’s Day cards are $1.00 and profits support Career Class outings. Thanks for your support!

The boys basketball team defeated the visiting Hastings Raiders 84-74 last night to move into a tie for 4th place in the Metro East conference with a record of 5 and 4. Malik Spearman and Elijah Lonetree led the offensive attack by scoring a combined 52 points. The boys are back in action tonight at North Saint Paul and on Friday at South Saint Paul.

Congrats to the girls JV and Varsity basketball teams on their wins over Simley last night. Both games were all-around team wins. Come see the girls back in action at home tonight vs. North St. Paul and Friday vs. South St. Paul as they look to extend their 6-game win streak!

The snowy winter wonderland set the scene yesterday for the Nordic Warriors at the sections meet. The day was highlighted by Ben Church's 12th place finish with his best skate race to date to earn himself a State Meet qualification. Ben will be the first boy in 7 years to earn the honor. The boys finished sixth overall with strong racing from Nathan Whitcomb, Thomas McDermott, Quinn Munson, Jake Boehm, and Luke Ross. The girls were lead by Nicole Gonsalez, and veteran skiers Kieran White and Allie Prokosch, both capping off great skiing careers. Madeline Smith, Daniela Sanches, Mia Forouhari, and Jessica McAllister finished feeling accomplished after their first taste of a 10 kilometer sections race. Congrats Warriors.

The Father/Daughter Dance will be held Friday, March 15, 2019.  We are in the 28th year of this tradition and hope to keep it going by getting more people involved.  Are you available to help us stuff envelopes for our mailing to our Sibley Families on ThursdayFebruary 7th at 6:30pm at Sibley in room C306?  We'd love to have some Dads and Moms help us out.  It should only take about an hour or so. We could really use your help! Many hands make light work.

Attention Credit Recovery Students - Due to last week's weather cancellations we will extend night school by two sessions.  Two additional night school dates will be added on Thursday, February 14 and Tuesday, February 19.  Please talk to Mr. Karlen or your night school instructors with any quest

Congratulations to the Speech team on a great outing at the Cannon Falls Invitational. The following students received an award for their performance:  In Novice for Dramatic Interpretation Hayden Zelany took 5th place for Extemporaneous Speaking Aaron Rajput took 2nd place for Original Oratory Taylor Gonsalez took 6th place and Eleanor Richards took 5th place. In Varsity for  Extemporaneous Speaking Khadija Sharif took 6th place and in Informative Speaking, competing for her first time Tamit Weldeyesus took 3rd place. Congratulations to all of the participants.

Come out and support your boys basketball teams tonight at home against Simley. We will have another Cane's raffle, and you will also have the chance to see your Warrior dance team perform at halftime.
